Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Cunningham To State Cemetery Committee

~ Houston resident Dot Cunningham has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the State Cemetery Committee. The term for this position will expire on February 1, 2031. The Committee works closely with the State Preservation Board to establish regulations for the management and oversight of the Texas State Cemetery.

Cunningham brings a wealth of experience to this role, having retired after a successful 35-year career in various sectors including law, politics, government, and corporate work. She is also known as the widow of late astronaut Walt Cunningham.

In addition to her professional achievements, Cunningham is an active member of her community. She is a lifetime member of both the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and the Houston Rotary. She also serves as a board member for the Uptown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #16 (TIRZ)/Uptown Development Authority (UDA) and is a member of Houston First Baptist Church.

Cunningham's dedication to service extends beyond her local community as well. She is a board member for Be An Angel and has previously worked as a fundraiser for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Center.

Cunningham holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston. With her extensive background and commitment to public service, she is well-equipped to contribute to the important work of managing and preserving the Texas State Cemetery.
