Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Latest Slate Of Appointments

~ This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced his selection of several highly qualified individuals to serve on behalf of the people of Texas. These appointments were made to various advisory councils and boards, with the aim of improving emergency medical services, addressing barriers to higher education for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and overseeing water conservation efforts.
Among the appointments was Lauren Hart Day and Crissie Richardson to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services (EMS). They were joined by reappointments James M. "Mike" DeLoach, Brian Eastridge, M.D., Della Johnson, and Gerad Troutman, M.D. These individuals will serve on the council until January 1, 2032. The council's main responsibility is to recommend changes to the EMS/Trauma System in order to ensure that communities receive comprehensive and efficient emergency care.
Governor Abbott also reappointed Aaron Bangor, Ph.D. to the Advisory Council on Postsecondary Education for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This council was created by the 86th Texas Legislature with a specific focus on addressing barriers faced by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities when accessing higher education. Dr. Bangor's term will expire on August 31, 2027.

In addition to these appointments, Governor Abbott also reappointed Jon "Mark" Sjolander to the Coastal Water Authority Board of Directors for a term set to expire on April 1, 2028. The Coastal Water Authority is responsible for conservation and reclamation efforts in Harris, Chambers, and Liberty Counties. They have the authority to transport and deliver water both within and outside their jurisdiction.
Gonzalo J. Perez-Garcia, M.D. was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the Correctional Managed Health Care Committee for a term set to expire on February 1, 2029. This committee is responsible for coordinating statewide policies related to correctional health care within the criminal justice system.
Lastly, Governor Abbott reappointed Brandy Bergeron, M.D., Shawn M. Sparrow, and Amy Townsend, M.D. to the Jefferson and Orange Counties Board of Pilot Commissioners. Their terms will expire on August 22, 2027. This board has exclusive jurisdiction over pilot services in these counties, including intermediate stops and landing places for vessels on navigable streams.
