Spokane: Construction Impacts for Freya Street Corridor

Rezul News/10742128
~ Spokane's northeast Freya St., Greene St., and Market St. corridor will once again be impacted by traffic as crews begin work on the Freya Street railroad overpasses. According to Kirstin Davis, Communications Manager for the city, the project is set to begin on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra time as frequent traffic changes are expected in the area. Davis also urges drivers to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses that may be affected by the necessary construction.

The southbound lanes of Freya Way and Freya Street will be closed between Mission Ave. and Broadway Avenue, while northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane between Broadway Avenue and Mission Avenue.

For those traveling southbound on Greene Street, a detour will be in place directing drivers east at Mission Avenue. From there, they can turn south on Havana Street or Fancher Road, travel south to Broadway Avenue, and continue onto Freya Street.

Drivers are encouraged to consider alternative routes if possible. However, access to businesses in the area will still be maintained and the public is reminded to make an extra effort to support them during this time.

For those traveling northbound on Freya Street, slowdowns can be expected as traffic will be reduced to one lane between Broadway Avenue and Mission Avenue. Again, alternative routes should be considered if possible.

To help visualize the project and its impact on traffic flow, a map of the Freya Corridor Overpass Project has been provided by city officials.

The city of Spokane reminds drivers that current obstruction information impacting travel within the city can be found on their construction webpage.
