Pavement preservation treatments using Reclamite scheduled for 55 Columbia streets beginning June 1
Rezul News/10736539
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, June 1, CAM LLC, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, is scheduled to begin applying Reclamite, an asphalt rejuvenating treatment, to 55 Columbia streets.
Reclamite is a petroleum-based product designed to restore essential oils lost from asphalt over time due to oxidation caused by sunlight, water and traffic wear. The treatment helps extend pavement life by sealing the roadway surface, improving flexibility and reducing water infiltration, a major cause of cracking and potholes.
Work is scheduled to take place on weekdays throughout June and July, weather permitting, until all streets on the project list have been treated.
Temporary lane closures will be necessary while Reclamite is being applied and allowed to set.
Downtown Reclamite operations
Several downtown streets resurfaced through the City's pavement management program in 2025 are included in this year's Reclamite program. Applying Reclamite approximately one year after resurfacing is a standard pavement preservation practice that helps protect the City's investment and extend the life of newly paved streets.
Because the treatment must be applied to a clear roadway surface, vehicles must be removed from affected downtown streets during scheduled work hours, typically 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Streets scheduled for treatment will be clearly marked with temporary "No Parking" signs indicating the dates and times work will occur.
Downtown residents are encouraged to park in the hourly sections of parking garages overnight when possible. City parking garages are enforced 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and are free to use outside enforcement hours.
To minimize impacts on visitors, residents and businesses, crews plan to avoid performing downtown work during University of Missouri Summer Welcome activities.
Parking restrictions
Orange "No Parking" signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance along streets scheduled for treatment. Drivers are asked to follow the dates and times listed on these signs and avoid parking on affected streets during work hours. Vehicles parked in signed work zones may be subject to ticketing or towing.
