"Still active at the age of 78, he embodies a living legacy that spans generations, genres and eras." – David Whiteis, Living Blues Magazine
GILMER, Texas - Oct. 11, 2017 - Rezul -- On Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Gilmer City Council Meeting, Mayor Tim Marshall signed a proclamation naming October 27 Benny Turner Day in Gilmer, TX.
Born in Gilmer in 1939 and raised there for the first eleven years of his life, Turner and his older brother, blues legend and 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Freddie King, toured the world together in the early '70's beside iconic musicians including Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Grand Funk Railroad and more. Both before and after that time, Turner was an active musician, performing with some of the biggest names in gospel, r&b and blues.
An award-winning songwriter and acclaimed performer, Turner received the Jus' Blues Little Milton Lifetime Bluesman Award in August 2017, and will be inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame on October 15, 2017.

Turner observed two significant milestones last year: a sixty year music career and forty years since the untimely death of his brother, bandmate and best friend, Freddie King. In commemoration, his autobiography, Survivor - The Benny Turner Story was published in July 2017 and his fifth solo CD, "My Brother's Blues" was released in September 2017.
In celebration of Benny Turner Day, a book signing will be held at the Historic Upshur Museum, 119 Simpson Street, Gilmer, TX on October 27 from 2PM until 6PM, beginning with Mayor Marshall's presentation of the Proclamation to Mr. Turner. In addition to books, Turner's CDs and t-shirts will also be available for purchase. Fifty percent of all merchandise sales will be donated to the Historic Upshur Museum in honor of Benny Turner and his musical legacy.
