Naperville Police: Speeding Catches Up With You
Rezul News/10740152
~ Naperville, IL- The Naperville Police Department has joined forces with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police to launch a statewide initiative aimed at reducing speeding and promoting traffic safety. This partnership includes hundreds of local law enforcement agencies and will be in effect throughout the month of July.
According to Naperville Police Sgt. Eric Muska, speeding poses a significant danger on the roads. He stated, "Speeding greatly reduces a driver's ability to steer safely around another vehicle, a hazardous object or an unexpected curve. Speeding drivers put themselves, their passengers and other motorists at tremendous risk." In an effort to combat this issue, officers will be increasing patrols and enforcing posted speed limits.
The focus of this campaign is to save lives by cracking down on speed-related crashes and moving violations. Major roadways where these types of incidents frequently occur will be closely monitored and offenders will be stopped and ticketed. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and encourage drivers to obey speed limits.

Residents can expect to see stepped-up patrols not only in Naperville but throughout the state until the end of July. Additionally, July 22nd has been designated as Illinois Speed Awareness Day by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.
This initiative comes in response to a recent increase in speed-related crashes and moving violations. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, speeding is a factor in 44.9% of all motor vehicle fatalities, 36.3% of all injury crashes, and 31.1% of all roadway crashes.
Funding for this campaign is made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT. It also supports IDOT's broader "It's Not a Game" media campaign which aims to educate drivers about safe driving practices.
In conclusion, motorists are urged to adhere to posted speed limits for their own safety as well as the safety of others on the road. The "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign serves as a reminder that speeding can have serious consequences and it is not worth the risk.
