Mesa Residents Read More Than 15 Million Minutes in 2025 Through Mesa Reads

~ Mesa, AZ- In 2025, the residents of Mesa made a remarkable achievement by logging over 15 million minutes of reading through the Mesa Public Library's year-long initiative, Mesa Reads. This citywide effort was designed to promote daily reading and foster a culture of literacy within the community.

The program challenged participants of all ages to read for at least 15 minutes every day. Using the Beanstack app, community members were able to track their reading progress and complete fun monthly challenges to earn virtual tickets for raffle prize drawings. The goal of Mesa Reads was not only to encourage consistent reading habits but also to highlight the lifelong benefits of literacy.

According to the statistics released by Mesa Public Library, a total of 5,468 individuals participated in the program across four age groups. This included 626 pre-readers, 2,701 children, 606 teens, and 1,535 adults. Together, they logged an impressive total of 15,093,072 minutes throughout the year.

The impact of this initiative was not limited to individuals alone. As many as 43 classrooms from Mesa Public Schools also took part in Mesa Reads and contributed by logging a total of 730,908 minutes and reading 14,907 books.

Polly Bonnett, Director of Mesa Public Library expressed her delight at the overwhelming response to this program and encouraged everyone to continue reading in the years ahead. "We believe in the power of reading to transform lives, spark imagination and build connections," she said. "This initiative brought together residents, schools and other community partners to showcase what we can achieve when we unite around a common goal."

For those who are not yet members of Mesa Public Library, it is worth noting that library cards are free for anyone who lives in Maricopa County for at least 30 consecutive days a year or works, owns property or attends school within the county.
