~ The eighth annual Mesa Music Festival is scheduled for Oct. 15-17, with music industry speakers opening the event and rock band P.O.D. set to headline a free concert on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m.
The festival's Thursday program will feature music journalist and television personality Matt Pinfield, along with music industry veterans Tyson Ritter and Gardner Cole. Pinfield, known for hosting MTV's "120 Minutes," will discuss his career and people and events that have shaped the music industry, according to the festival announcement.
Ritter is the lead singer, bassist and lyricist for All-American Rejects and co-founded PlayHouse.band, an online platform for live music in intimate settings. P.O.D., a San Diego-based band, has released 11 albums since 1992, including the triple-platinum "Satellite," according to the announcement. The group has received three Grammy Award nominations and contributed songs to films.
Festival director and organizer Indian Antao said the event brings emerging artists together with established figures in the music industry. Antao described Pinfield's participation and P.O.D.'s headline performance as an opportunity for artists and fans to take part in the festival.
The event is designed to give musicians opportunities to learn from and network with industry professionals, exchange ideas and perform for industry representatives and new audiences, organizers said.
The festival expects more than 200 bands from around the world to perform in downtown Mesa businesses and on outdoor stages on Oct. 16 and 17, according to the announcement. Further information and lineup details are available at mesamusicfest.com.
