Mayor Wu announces 2026 "Boston Blooms with Daffodils" Bulb Giveaway

BOSTON ~ Boston residents can look forward to a brighter and more colorful spring next year, thanks to the efforts of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. Mayor Michelle Wu announced today that the department will be distributing over 15,000 daffodil bulbs for planting on public ways throughout the city as part of their annual beautification initiative, "Boston Blooms with Daffodils."

Since its inception in 2011, this initiative has encouraged individuals and various community groups to participate in planting daffodil bulbs in their neighborhoods. Last year alone, over 100 community groups took part in this project, bringing a burst of cheerful yellow flowers to parks and public spaces across the city.

According to Diana Fernandez Bibeau, Commissioner of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and Deputy Chief of Open Space, this initiative not only adds beauty to the city but also allows residents to take an active role in caring for their communities. She expressed her gratitude towards all the volunteers who have helped make this project a success.

Registration for this year's "Boston Blooms with Daffodils" is now open on boston.gov/boston-blooms. The online application form will be available until late September on a rolling basis. However, due to limited supply, groups are not guaranteed bulbs. The Parks Department will do its best to accommodate all requests but encourages interested parties to apply early. The deadline for applications is October 2nd but may close sooner if demand exceeds supply.

Bulbs will be available for pickup on October 29th and November 5th, with plantings scheduled for those weekends in approved locations. Interested groups will be contacted by the Parks Department with instructions on how to pick up their bulbs. Participants are asked to bring their own tools for planting.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department also encourages volunteers to document their planting efforts by taking photos and sharing them on social media using the hashtag #BostonBlooms and tagging @bostonparksdept.
