Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County
Rezul News/10709754
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 29, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Prince George's County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. The Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying is scheduled for the evening of July 30, 2025 in Hyattsville near the 38th Avenue Park, Mt. Rainier, North Brentwood, and Brentwood.
According to the press release issued on July 29, 2025, spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m. and will be rescheduled for the next available evening in case of inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the designated areas will be temporarily suspended during this time.
The MDA Mosquito Control Program will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long and loose-fitting clothing in light colors, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity periods (dusk and dawn), installing and regularly inspecting window and door screens at home and stables, cleaning bird baths and pet bowls regularly, and removing or emptying any water-holding containers.
To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, residents are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules are also available by county on the program's website.
For more information about the upcoming spraying or general inquiries about mosquito control in Maryland, individuals can contact MDA's Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.
