Long Beach Public Works to Host Community Meeting on Del Amo Boulevard Complete Street Project

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works is inviting community members to attend a community meeting on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Scherer Park Community Center (4600 Long Beach Blvd.) to learn more about the upcoming Del Amo Boulevard Complete Street Project.

The project aims to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity for all users by redesigning portions of Del Amo Boulevard. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, review planned improvements, ask questions and hear about the anticipated construction schedule. Spanish, Tagalog and Khmer interpretation services will be provided at the meeting.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026 and be completed by summer 2027, barring any weather delays or unforeseen circumstances. The project will be completed in two segments: from Long Beach Boulevard to Atlantic Avenue and from Orange Avenue to Cherry Avenue. The segment between Atlantic Avenue and Orange Avenue was previously completed in 2022 as part of an earlier project.

Planned improvements include roadway rehabilitation, reconstructed curbs, gutters, curb ramps and sidewalks. New sidewalks will also be added where they do not currently exist and curb ramps will be upgraded for improved accessibility. Additionally, physically separated bikeways will be installed along with improved pedestrian crossings. Other enhancements include curb and parkway extensions and bulb-outs, median adjustments and transit upgrades such as new bus pads at key transit stops. Traffic striping and signage will also be refreshed throughout the corridor for better visibility and safety.

Del Amo Boulevard has been identified as a corridor in need of transportation safety improvements as part of the City's High Injury Network. This project also aligns with the objectives of the Long Beach Safe Streets Action Plan, Bicycle Master Plan and Complete Streets framework by promoting multimodal transportation improvements that enhance bicycle and pedestrian facilities, strengthen neighborhood connections and expand safer mobility choices.

Funding for this project is provided by Prop C, the Port of Long Beach Community Infrastructure Grant, Measure R, Measure A Bonds, Measure M and Prop A. It is also a part of the Elevate '28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access and streets.
