Juneau: As Construction Progresses, Three Playgrounds Set to Open Fall 2026
Rezul News/10741649
~ The City and Borough of Juneau is excited to announce that three playgrounds – Sigoowu Ye Park, Si't Tuwan Park, and Dzantik'i Heeni Playground – are set to open this fall after undergoing extensive updates based on years of public input. These updates aim to enhance the overall experience for visitors and provide a safe and enjoyable environment for children to play.
Sigoowu Ye Park, located in Lemon Creek, will feature new playground equipment, upgraded pathways, improved landscaping, and enhanced lighting. Currently, contractors are working on surfacing and final site clean-up. Most of the park's updates were completed last fall, but due to weather conditions and contractor availability, surfacing was delayed until this summer. The park is expected to open in August.
Similarly, Si't Tuwan Park, situated between Threadneedle St. and Kanat'a Deyi St. in Mendenhall Valley, will also see significant improvements. These include new play equipment for multiple age groups, picnic tables, and a basketball court. The playground structures have already been built by contractors, with surfacing being the next step before final landscaping and design can be carried out. Si't Tuwan Park is also expected to open in August.

Meanwhile, construction on the Dzantik'i Heeni Playground is progressing steadily. Contractors anticipate completing the park later this fall.
As construction continues on these playgrounds, it is important to note that all sites are currently closed to the public for safety reasons. However, there are plenty of other parks available for families to visit in the meantime. The Parks & Recreation department has a "Find a Park" website where visitors can discover other options.
For more information about Sigoowu Ye Park or Si't Tuwan Park, please contact Parks & Recreation at 907-586-5226. For inquiries about the Dzantik'i Heeni Playground, please reach out to Project Manager Lisa EaganLagerquist. The City and Borough of Juneau is excited to provide these updated playgrounds for the community and looks forward to their opening this fall.
