Idaho: Gov. Little grants additional leave for state employees to celebrate America250

BOISE, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little has taken a step towards recognizing the nationwide celebration of America250 by signing Executive Order 2026-06. This order grants state employees two additional days of paid leave surrounding the Independence Day holiday in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The executive order, signed today, states that eligible executive branch employees will receive paid leave on Thursday, July 2, 2026 and Monday, July 6, 2026. This is in addition to the state-observed Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 3, 2026.

In a statement, Governor Little expressed his excitement for this once-in-a-generation opportunity to celebrate the enduring ideals of freedom and self-government that have made America the greatest nation in the world. He also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of Idaho's public servants and their role in keeping Idaho strong, prosperous and free.

The significance of July 4th, 1776 was also recognized in the executive order as it marks the day when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. The order also highlights Idaho's participation in the nationwide America250 commemoration.

Agency directors have been instructed to ensure that essential government functions and public safety services continue to operate during these designated leave days. Employees who are required to work on these days will be compensated according to applicable state laws, rules and agency policies.

Governor Little encouraged all Idahoans to take part in America250 activities throughout the year. He urged them to honor veterans and service members, celebrate the nation's founding principles and reflect on its values that have guided it for two and a half centuries.
