Idaho Falls: Multiagency Response Quickly Contains 100-Acre Wildfire in Henry Creek Area

~ Idaho Falls, ID - On Tuesday, July 1, at approximately 2 p.m., the Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to a wind-driven wildfire in the Henry Creek area near Packbridge Lane. The fire, which burned approximately 100 acres of brush and grass, was quickly contained thanks to a coordinated response from multiple local, state, and federal agencies.
Upon arrival at the scene, Idaho Falls Fire Department units were the first to take action. Battalion Chief 1 established command as firefighters began an aggressive attack on the fire. As additional resources arrived, a unified command was established between the Idaho Falls Fire Department, Bonneville County Fire District No. 1, and the Bureau of Land Management.
While no homes were directly threatened by the fire, Idaho Falls Fire Department crews took precautionary measures by positioning apparatus for structure protection. Despite challenging conditions with strong winds fueling the flames, firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly.
The successful containment of the fire was made possible through the efforts of local, state and federal firefighting partners. Resources responding to the incident included three brush units, two water tenders, two Type 1 structure engines and one battalion chief from Idaho Falls Fire Department; one brush unit, one water tender and two chief officers from Bonneville County Fire District No. 1 (Ammon Division); two battalion chiefs, two Type 4 engines and two Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) aircraft from Bureau of Land Management; two engines from U.S. Forest Service; and assistance from Henry's Creek Rural Fire Association and Bonneville County Sheriff's Office for scene control.

Crews remained on scene throughout the evening and overnight to extinguish hot spots and prevent any rekindling of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by a Bureau of Land Management fire investigator. While initial reports suggested that a lightning strike may have sparked the blaze, no official cause has been determined.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department would like to remind residents to be vigilant during hot, dry, and windy weather as wildfire conditions can change rapidly. If you observe smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911 and avoid entering active fire areas to allow emergency responders to safely access the scene. Thanks to the swift response and collaboration of multiple agencies, this wildfire was contained quickly and prevented from causing further damage.
