Idaho Falls: Expect Traffic Delays as Contractors Apply Needed Chip Seals
Rezul News/10742960
~ Idaho Falls residents can expect traffic delays in the coming weeks as contractors begin applying much-needed chip seals to various streets throughout the city. The project, which is set to begin on Monday, August 17, will be carried out by HK Contractors and is expected to be completed by September.
According to the Idaho Falls Public Works department, the chip seal work will take place in phases with crews moving to different locations throughout the project. However, due to factors such as weather and equipment availability, the schedule may be subject to change.
In order for the chip seal application to be successful, on-street parking will be restricted in active work areas. Drivers should also anticipate lane closures and delays on affected streets as contractors clean the roads, apply a chip seal, remove excess chips and finish with a fog seal.
The streets that will undergo chip sealing are listed below in their anticipated order of work:

To help residents stay informed about the road work and potential traffic impacts, the City of Idaho Falls has created an interactive GIS map that shows the locations of all ongoing road construction projects. Additionally, community members are encouraged to sign up for free road construction text alerts by texting RoadsIF to 38276.
Drivers are reminded to slow down in work zones, watch for construction crews and equipment, follow posted traffic control devices, and allow extra travel time when necessary. This project is part of the city's efforts to extend the life of existing roadways and reduce the need for more costly repairs in the future.
The City of Idaho Falls would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation as crews work to maintain and improve streets throughout the city. For more information on this project or other ongoing road work in Idaho Falls, visit the Public Works department's website or social media pages.
