Governor Polis Urges President Trump to Sign Bipartisan Housing Law That Builds on Colorado's Leadership to Increase Housing Supply
Rezul News/10738796
DENVER ~ In a recent press release, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado urged President Trump to sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, following the President's announcement of a delay in taking action on the bipartisan bill. The legislation aims to implement proven strategies that Colorado is currently utilizing to increase housing supply, lower housing costs, and support innovative housing solutions.
Governor Polis emphasized that the most effective way to reduce housing costs is by building more homes. He highlighted Colorado's efforts in cutting red tape, embracing modular construction, modernizing land-use policies, and partnering with local communities to create affordable housing options. The Governor welcomed any assistance from both local and federal partners in this crucial work of building more homes immediately.
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act also directs the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to develop a model guidance framework for point-access residential buildings. This approach has already been adopted by Colorado through legislation signed by Governor Polis in collaboration with the legislature. The bill aims to modernize building codes for factory-built structures and residential buildings.

Since taking office, Governor Polis has made increasing housing one of his top priorities. He has signed landmark legislation that expands accessory dwelling units, reduces unnecessary parking requirements, eliminates discriminatory occupancy limits, supports transit-oriented communities, modernizes building standards, and encourages modular factory-built housing. Additionally, Colorado has made historic investments through Proposition 123, including the largest one-time state investment in the modular housing industry. The state has set a goal of supporting the creation of over 22,000 housing units by 2027.
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act builds upon these principles by promoting innovative housing construction, reducing barriers to development, encouraging local housing reforms, and providing additional tools for states and communities to build more homes.
Governor Polis's call for President Trump's support in signing this bill highlights the urgency of addressing the affordable housing crisis in Colorado and across the nation. With the implementation of these strategies, it is hoped that more affordable housing options will become available for individuals and families in need.
