Governor Abbott Reappoints Three To Texas State Board Of Veterinary Medical Examiners

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the reappointment of three individuals to the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Sue Allen, Larry Moczygemba, D.V.M., and Victoria Whitehead will continue to serve on the board until August 26, 2031.

The State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies that ensure the highest quality of veterinary and equine dental services for Texans. With their extensive experience and expertise in the field, these reappointees are well-equipped to fulfill this mission.

Sue Allen, a licensed veterinary technician from Waco, brings a wealth of knowledge to the board. She currently serves as a program director and professor of veterinary technology at McLennan Community College (MCC). Prior to this, she worked as a registered veterinary technician at a clinic in Gatesville. Allen is an active member of various professional organizations such as the North Central Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Veterinary Technician Educators, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and more. She has also volunteered with MCC Continuing Education and other community events related to animal care. Allen holds an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Texas State Technical College.

Lawrence "Larry" Moczygemba, D.V.M., hailing from Berclair, has been involved in the veterinary field for over three decades. He is the founder and former owner of South Texas Veterinary Clinic (STVC), a mixed animal practice that has been serving south Texas since 1986. Currently working as a relief veterinarian and ambulatory beef cattle veterinarian with STVC services, Moczygemba's expertise will be invaluable to the board. He is also a former president of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants and co-founder of the Academy of Rural Veterinarians. Moczygemba holds degrees from Texas A&M University (TAMU) including Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science, Master of Science in Statistics and Epidemiology from the University of Nebraska– Lincoln, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from TAMU.

Victoria Whitehead, the chief executive officer of the West Texas Home Builders Association, Inc., is also among the reappointees. She is a board member of various organizations including the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Caprock Business Finance Corporation, and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Lubbock. Whitehead is also actively involved in community service as the CEO of West Texas Hero Homes and a committee member for the America Cancer Society' Cattle Baron's Ball. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas Tech University (TTU) and a Juris Doctor from TTU School of Law.
