The Commission will build upon the significant investments in public education and teacher compensation made by Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, and the Texas Legislature in recent sessions. It will bring together exemplary public school educators from across the state to develop practical recommendations that are informed by their experiences in the classroom.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of empowering teachers to improve student success and create a better learning environment. He stated, "Texas teachers know what their students need to succeed. The Texas Classroom Commission will bring together exemplary public school educators to identify innovative solutions that help students succeed, improve the learning environment in classrooms, and strengthen our schools."

The Commission's recommendations will be presented to Governor Abbott, the Texas Education Agency, and the Texas Legislature before the 90th Legislative Session begins. Its focus will be on enhancing classroom instruction, supporting teachers, improving learning environments, and ensuring that Texas students are prepared for success.

Lieutenant Governor Patrick also expressed his commitment to supporting teachers and students through this initiative. He said, "Other than a parent, no person is more influential in a child's development than a teacher." He went on to highlight his efforts in raising teacher salaries and providing additional resources for classrooms. He believes that empowering teachers through this commission will lead to even better educational outcomes for students.

Speaker Burrows echoed these sentiments and emphasized that teachers play a crucial role in shaping future generations. He highlighted measures such as permanent teacher pay raises and increased funding for teacher incentive programs as evidence of their support for educators. The Commission will be led by Courtney Boswell MacDonald, a former classroom teacher and current chair of the State Board for Educator Certification. MacDonald brings a wealth of experience in education policy, having previously worked on the Senate Education Committee and served as executive director for various education reform organizations. She is also a former math teacher at Richardson ISD and Dallas ISD.

The Commission will consist of both current and retired public school classroom teachers. They will begin their work in the coming weeks and deliver their recommendations before the start of the 90th Legislative Session. With educators at the forefront, Governor Abbott's Texas Classroom Commission aims to make significant strides in improving public education in Texas.
