~ Governor Greg Abbott, along with Entergy Corporation CEO Drew Marsh and Entergy Texas President and CEO Eli Viamontes, celebrated the groundbreaking of two new power stations in Southeast Texas today. The Entergy Legend and Lone Star power stations will add 1,200 megawatts (MW) of energy to the state's capacity, providing more reliable and affordable power for the region.
During the ceremony, Governor Abbott praised Texas as the top energy producer in America, leading in areas such as electricity production, oil and gas production, wind-power generation, and utility-scale solar and battery storage. He also emphasized the state's commitment to expanding its energy sources to meet the needs of tomorrow.
"Today, we are expanding that leadership by breaking ground on two new massive power generation stations," said Governor Abbott. "We thank Entergy for investing in our state and for powering our future."
Entergy chair and CEO Drew Marsh echoed this sentiment, stating that Southeast Texas is a region with a skilled workforce, strong infrastructure, community support, and global reach. He emphasized the importance of affordable and reliable power for continued growth in the area.

"Legend and Lone Star demonstrate how we're investing to meet today's needs while supporting the region's long-term future," said Marsh.
Entergy Texas CEO Eliecer Viamontes also spoke at the event, highlighting the increasing demand for dependable power in Southeast Texas due to its growing population of families, businesses, and industries. He noted that these two new generation resources will help meet this demand while driving job creation and supporting economic development.
The Governor also pointed out that over the past five years, Texas has added thousands of MW to its grid. The Legend and Lone Star power plants alone will be able to supply electricity for over 300 thousand homes.
Entergy is a leading provider of electricity in Arkansas, Louisiana Mississippi, and Texas with over 3 million customers. The company is committed to providing reliable and affordable power to the communities it serves.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by state and local officials, who joined in celebrating the expansion of Texas' energy capacity. Additional photos of the event will be made available on Entergy's website.
With the construction of these two new power stations, Texas continues to solidify its position as a leader in energy production and looks towards a bright future powered by reliable and affordable electricity.
