~ Texas Governor Greg Abbott has recently appointed two new members to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Monte Monroe, Ph.D. and Leslie Recine. Their terms are set to expire on September 28, 2031.
The Commission is responsible for serving Texans in four key mission areas: archives management and historical preservation, support for libraries and learning, access to public records, and reading and literacy services.
Dr. Monte L. Monroe of Lubbock is a retired archivist who previously served on the faculty at Texas Tech University (TTU). He brings a wealth of experience to the Commission, having also served as the Texas State Historian and on the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board. In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Monroe is a fellow and former board member of the West Texas Historical Association scholarly journal.
