Governor Abbott Announces Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund Grant To Texas State Technical College

~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) has granted $3.5 million to Texas State Technical College (TSTC) for their Accelerated Semiconductor Technician Training Program (ASTTP). The grant will be used to support the program at the Williamson County Campus in Hutto.

According to Governor Abbott, this investment in high-demand skills training will provide Texans with better job opportunities and higher paychecks. He believes that with this grant, TSTC will be able to transform their existing instructional and lab space into a specialized training facility focused on semiconductor and electromechanical workforce development. The goal is to ensure that the technologies powering the future are made in Texas.

The ASTTP program aims to deliver a modular, accelerated curriculum that can prepare technicians for semiconductor fabrication jobs within just 10 weeks. Students will be trained for roles such as equipment technicians, process technicians, and gas control system specialists. The program will also include a wafer processing learning facility with a mock cleanroom that replicates industry workflows.

TSTC Chancellor and CEO Mike Reeser expressed his excitement about this opportunity, stating that Texas is the epicenter of business prosperity in the United States. He believes that as the country re-shores and builds up its manufacturing and semiconductor infrastructure, Texas will lead the way. Reeser also mentioned that through this new funding from TSIF, TSTC is proud to join forces with the Governor's Office and other state leaders to keep Texas as a top destination for businesses.

Senator Charles Schwertner also praised this initiative, stating that it represents Texas' commitment to building a first-rate workforce for a world-class economy. The Texas CHIPS Act was signed into law by Governor Abbott in 2023 to establish the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC).
