Governor Abbott Announces Over $5.8 Million For Texas Emergency And Trauma Care Workforce Training

These grants aim to provide training for doctors and nurses in emergency and trauma care, as well as expand the state's healthcare workforce.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the Texas workforce through this funding, which will help students receive the necessary education and resources.

The Emergency and Trauma Care Education Partnership Program (ETEP), managed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), is responsible for distributing these grants. By funding partnerships between hospitals and graduate medical programs, ETEP aims to increase the number of physicians and nurses trained in emergency and trauma care.

Wynn Rosser, Texas Commissioner of Higher Education, highlighted the significance of this grant program in supporting training for high-need specialty areas such as emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, and surgical critical care. He believes that having more well-trained doctors and nurses with critical care expertise will greatly benefit the wellbeing of Texans and improve access to emergency medical care across the state.

The Emergency and Trauma Care Education Partnership (ETEP) program was established by the 82nd Texas Legislature in 2011 with the goal of increasing the number of emergency medicine and trauma care physician residents and fellows through partnerships between hospitals and graduate medical programs. ETEP also supports partnerships that enhance training for registered nurses pursuing graduate degrees or certificates.
