~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced a significant grant from the Texas Energy Fund (TxEF) to enhance electric reliability for members of the Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative in Northwest Texas. The grant, totaling over $795,000, will support the co-op's ongoing efforts to modernize their system.
In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of the Texas Energy Fund in strengthening electric systems that are relied upon by families, businesses, and communities. He expressed confidence that this critical grant will lead to reduced equipment failure rates, shorter repair times, and fewer outages for Texans.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) Chairman Thomas Gleeson also highlighted the significance of this grant in light of growing power demand throughout the state. He stated that investments in reliability projects are crucial for reinforcing Texans' trust in a dependable power supply.
The project funded by this grant will involve replacing 30 aging breakers across eight electrical substations. This upgrade is expected to benefit members in Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative's service territory, which includes parts of Castro, Oldham, Parmer, and Deaf Smith Counties.
The PUCT oversees the TxEF Outside ERCOT Grant Program, which provides funding for projects aimed at improving electric reliability and resiliency for Texans served by electric utilities outside the ERCOT region. More information about this program and others offered by TxEF can be found on the PUCT's website.
