Boise, Idaho ~ **Idaho, Forest Service Sign Agreements to Expand Forest Management**

**BOISE, Idaho —** The U.S. Forest Service and Idaho Department of Lands have signed five new Good Neighbor Authority agreements, backed by $12.4 million in federal funding, to expand forest restoration and wildfire-risk reduction across Idaho.

The agreements will support timber sale preparation and implementation, hazardous-fuels reduction, road improvements, timber salvage, reforestation, post-wildfire recovery, thinning and watershed protection.

A 20-year statewide agreement covering all national forests in Idaho will provide a framework for long-term investment and coordinated project planning. The agencies expect the work to support more than 100 future timber sales and dozens of additional restoration projects.

Gov. Brad Little said the agreements build on Idaho's partnership with the Forest Service and support his Make Forests Healthy Again executive order. He said the work is intended to improve forest health, reduce wildfire risk and strengthen rural communities and the timber industry.

The agreements build on a 2025 Shared Stewardship Agreement between Idaho and the Forest Service, which calls for expanded sustainable timber production, landscape-scale restoration and increased hazardous-fuels reduction.

Forest Service Regional Forester Michiko Martin said the partnership will help accelerate treatments across varied landscapes and protect communities. Idaho Department of Lands Deputy Division Administrator of Forestry Jon Songster said the new funding and long-term framework will help put more projects on the ground.

Idaho began using Good Neighbor Authority in 2016 to carry out forest management projects on federal lands in partnership with the Forest Service, local governments, tribes, industry and other stakeholders. The work is intended to improve forest conditions, reduce wildfire risk and support local jobs.
