Georgia: Gov. Kemp, DOR Announce Distribution of Homeowner Tax Relief Grants

Rezul News/10749960
ATLANTA ~ Georgia's Department of Revenue will begin distributing funds to local governments this week through the 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant program, Gov. Brian Kemp announced.

The one-time program provides eligible homeowners with an $18,000 reduction in the assessed value of their homesteads for the 2026 tax year. The relief, approved by Kemp and the General Assembly in the amended fiscal 2026 budget, will reduce property tax bills rather than be paid as a separate check or deposit.

Some homeowners may already see the reduction on bills that have been issued, while others will receive it as local governments continue sending bills, according to the state.

The Department of Revenue is processing applications and distributing funds as required documentation is submitted and verified. Homeowners with a qualifying homestead exemption do not need to file a separate application, the department said.

Kemp said the program is intended to provide property tax relief and help keep more money in residents' pockets. State Revenue Commissioner David Burge said the department had worked with local governments to administer the program.

Homeowners with questions about eligibility or the relief shown on their bills should contact their local tax commissioner's office. Further information is available at dor.georgia.gov/2026-property-tax-relief-grant.
