Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Month-Long Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

~ Panama City Beach, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the return of Florida's Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, providing families with a full month of savings on essential school supplies and more. The holiday will run from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 31.
In a statement, Governor DeSantis expressed his pride in delivering additional sales tax holidays for Florida residents. He emphasized the importance of supporting families as they prepare for the upcoming school year and highlighted the benefits of cutting taxes and growing the state's economy.
Florida has consistently maintained a low unemployment rate and holds a AAA credit rating from all major agencies. Earlier this year, Governor DeSantis signed the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget which included $2 billion in tax relief. This included the permanent repeal of the Business Rent Tax and several targeted sales tax holidays.

The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday offers exemptions for various items including school supplies selling for $50 or less such as binders, notebooks, pens and pencils, and lunch boxes. Clothing, footwear, and apparel priced at $100 or less are also eligible for exemption including items like backpacks, pants, shoes, shirts, and sweaters.
In addition to these items, learning aids selling for $30 or less such as interactive books, puzzles, and flashcards are also exempt from sales tax during this holiday. Personal computers and accessories priced at $1,500 or less are also eligible for exemption when used for noncommercial home or personal use. This includes laptops, flash drives, printers, and headphones.

With this sales tax holiday in place for the entire month of August, Florida families can save on back-to-school shopping while preparing their children for success in the new school year.
