Evansville: On 812 Day, Mayor Awards $500,000 in Grants to 35 Local Organizations

EVANSVILLE, Ind. ~ Evansville, Ind. - On August 12, 2026, the city of Evansville came together to celebrate the organizations that are making a difference in their community. What started as a special gathering for local nonprofit leaders on 812 Day turned into an exciting announcement of $500,000 in Forward Together GO Grants to 35 deserving organizations.

Mayor Stephanie Terry announced the grant awards at the event, surprising recipients with the news of their selection and the amount they would receive. The grants are part of the city's ongoing efforts to support organizations that are addressing key community priorities such as neighborhood revitalization, youth wellness, and literacy.

This is the third round of Forward Together Grants and brings the city's total investment to $1.5 million over the past three years. These grants have been instrumental in supporting organizations that are tackling some of Evansville's most pressing issues, including youth development, affordable housing, education, public health, arts and culture, and family services.

According to Mayor Terry, "812 Day is about celebrating everything that makes Evansville special, and nothing reflects that more than the organizations and people who work every day to make our community stronger." She added that these grants recognize the incredible work already happening across their city while providing resources to help these organizations reach even more people.

Instead of a traditional press conference, the City invited nonprofit leaders to experience the news together at a special community event. This allowed recipients to learn in real-time whether they had been selected for a Forward Together GO Grant and how much they would receive. The announcement turned into a celebration of all the organizations making a positive impact in Evansville.

One recipient who was grateful for this opportunity was Josh Calhoun from HOPE of Evansville. He expressed his gratitude by saying, "We're incredibly grateful to Mayor Terry and the City of Evansville for investing in HOPE's work and helping us strengthen the communities we serve." He added that the Forward Together GO Grant will help them bring new life to the Phoenix Apartments and preserve it as affordable housing. With landscaping, cleanup, and exterior improvements, they hope to create a place where residents are proud to call home while making a visible difference in the surrounding neighborhood.

The 2026 Forward Together GO Grant recipients include a diverse range of organizations such as Ark Inc., Aurora, Autism Everyone, Boys & Girls Club of Evansville, Carver Community Organization, Community Action Program of Evansville and Vanderburgh County (CAPE), D.T.E.A.M. Inc., Dream Center Evansville, ECHO Housing Corporation, Eight12 Run Club, Evansville African American Museum, Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science, and many more.

These grants are funded through the City's ARPA interest funds and support organizations that address critical needs in Evansville. These include affordable housing, mental health and addiction services, food assistance, neighborhood revitalization, workforce and youth development, childcare access, resource navigation, and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

To be eligible for these grants, organizations had to be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits with a governing board of directors. They also had to have maintained continuous nonprofit status for at least three years and provide direct services to underprivileged or disadvantaged residents of Evansville. Applicants could request up to $35,000 in funding for eligible projects and programs.
