Evansville: Mayor Terry Launches Citywide Pothole and Street Marking Blitz as City Emerges from Winter
Rezul News/10731839
Evansville, Ind. ~ Evansville, Ind. - In an effort to repair the damage caused by harsh winter weather conditions, Mayor Stephanie Terry and the Public Works Division have announced a two-week pothole repair and street marking blitz. The blitz will take place from April 6 to April 17, with the goal of repairing over 1,000 potholes and refreshing approximately ten intersections.
According to Mayor Terry, maintaining safe roadways is a top priority for the city of Evansville. She stated that this focused and coordinated effort by the Public Works Division will not only ensure smoother travel for residents but also protect their vehicles from potential damage.
The pothole repair blitz will begin on Monday, April 6 and continue through Friday, April 10. During this time, Street Maintenance crews will be mobilized across the city to address high-priority areas affected by winter weather. Since January 1, over 5,600 potholes have already been repaired in high-traffic corridors.

Following the pothole repairs, a street marking blitz will take place from Monday, April 13 to Friday, April 17. Traffic engineering crews will repaint stop bars and directional arrows at intersections with higher-than-average accident rates. This is crucial for maintaining visibility and safety on the roads.
Potholes tend to increase during winter months due to fluctuating temperatures causing water to seep into cracks in the pavement. When this water freezes and expands, it weakens the road surface and leads to deterioration. Additionally, road markings fade more quickly during this time due to exposure to snowplows, road salt, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Residents are encouraged to report any potholes they come across by visiting the City of Evansville website or contacting Street Maintenance directly at (812) 435-6002 or evvpotholes@evansville.in.gov.
Mayor Terry expressed her gratitude for residents' patience while the repairs are being made and urged them to continue reporting any road issues they encounter. For media inquiries, please contact Anna Raben, Communications Director, at 812-305-0543 or araben@evansville.in.gov.
