IQ Aqua Prototype, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Intended to Integrate with its Maritime Defense Architecture and Address Underwater Mine Threats

More on Rezul News
On March 31st ZENA announced the IQ Aqua, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) prototype intended for multiple underwater use cases across defense and commercial markets, including, importantly, undersea mine detection in a military context. The ZENA IQ Aqua marks the company's entry into underwater robotics, extending its IQ autonomous product family, which currently spans air, land, and water surface drone operations, to underwater operations. The ZENA IQ Aqua prototype has demonstrated baseline autonomous navigation and underwater mobility in controlled environments. ZENA is now manufacturing several more prototypes to conduct outdoor underwater field testing in the U.S. and in other international locations.

In terms of commercial use, the ZENA IQ Aqua's design is suited for autonomous inspection of offshore energy pipelines, subsea cables, and maritime infrastructure, reducing reliance on costly diver deployments and manned vessel operations. Gulf Cooperation Council nations — including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar — represent a priority future commercial market given their extensive offshore hydrocarbon assets, major port facilities, and coastline protection requirements.

The global underwater drone market is projected to reach over $16 billion by 2034 according to Global Market Insights, with the defense and security segment representing the fastest-growing application category. ZENA is targeting future U.S. defense customers, NATO partners and Gulf Cooperation Council nations as IQ Aqua program advances.

Developing an Integrated Counter-UAS System Pairing the Interceptor P-1 Low-Cost Drone with Zena AI Detection and Swarm Command Software

On March 24th ZENA announced commencing development of an integrated counter-UAS system consisting of a software platform and architecture for its counter-UAS hardware and defense system. The ZENA platform is intended to exclusively connect the ZenaDrone Interceptor P-1 single-use, low-cost autonomous interceptor drone and the ZenaDrone 2000 Maritime Interceptor drone, with an AI software platform that will be developed by its U.S. ZENA AI division. The intended goal is to deliver a complete, AI-directed counter-UAS ecosystem for detecting and classifying airborne threats and autonomously commanding fleets to defeat them.

The ZENA AI-developed Counter-UAS platform is intended to function as a single AI software system with two core functionalities that are purpose-built for the Interceptor P-1 and ZenaDrone 2000 drones. This consists of a Threat Tracking System, intended to detect, identify, and track hostile slow-moving drones in real time, and a Swarm Intelligence Coordination Platform, intended to autonomously direct fleets of either of the ZenaDrone drone platforms to intercept and defeat the targets. The development is expected to be led by the ZENA AI division in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, starting in the coming weeks.

The ZENA AI R&D center will support US Department of War and other federal agency requirements through the development of secure, defense-oriented artificial intelligence systems development and research. The facility plans to focus on mission-critical research areas including AI-driven decision-support systems, autonomous and semi-autonomous intelligence architectures, advanced sensor and data fusion, secure edge intelligence, and quantum-enhanced optimization and modeling.

The ZENA ZenaDrone Interceptor P-1 is a small, expendable, autonomous VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) drone engineered to physically intercept and neutralize hostile drones in flight, with a planned selling price of under $5,000 each. The ZenaDrone 2000 is the ZENA Maritime Interceptor drone platform designed for deployment from the IQ Glider, an autonomous marine launch and refueling station, to extend counter-UAS capability across sea-based and coastal operating environments. Together, these platforms form the hardware foundation of the ZENA integrated counter-UAS defense ecosystem, along with ZENA AI software designed to detect threats and autonomously command fleets. ZENA is targeting a complete drone-on-drone defense capability at a cost per engagement that conventional missile and laser systems cannot match.

Filing of Patent for Maritime Defense System Combining ZenaDrone 2000 Interceptor Drone and IQ Glider Autonomous Marine Station

On March 12th ZENA announced fileing a provisional patent application for its maritime drone defense system combining the ZenaDrone 2000 maritime interceptor drone and the IQ Glider autonomous marine launch and refueling station. The patent application covers the ZENA counter-UAS system architecture, designed to enable persistent, ship-based drone interception capable of autonomously detecting, engaging, and intercepting multiple incoming unmanned aerial threats.

Operating ZENA ZenaDrone 2000 interceptor drones in a continuous relay launching from the IQ Glider marine station, the system is designed to provide constant aerial interception coverage capable of detecting, tracking, and intercepting multiple incoming drones or drone swarm threats. Key elements of the ZENA system are expected to include autonomous docking and refueling sequencing, multi-drone relay operations enabling uninterrupted coverage, and AI-driven navigation and threat engagement capabilities designed to operate in complex or GPS-denied environments.

Both the ZENA IQ Glider and the ZenaDrone 2000 interceptor drone are currently in active development. The ZenaDrone 2000 gas-powered prototype is at the design and development stage, with testing expected before the end of the year. The IQ Glider is being developed in parallel as the dedicated launch and refueling infrastructure for ZenaDrone 2000 fleet operations.
