Columbia: SAVE-A-LIFE: Naloxone education and distribution event to be hosted at City Hall, August 18

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - The Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services are teaming up to host a SAVE-A-LIFE event at City Hall on Tuesday, August 18. The event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and will focus on educating the public about Naloxone, also known as Narcan®, and its role in preventing opioid overdose deaths.
The event will feature a formal presentation on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to use and access naloxone. Following the presentation, Public Health and Human Services staff will be available to provide information and brief training for those who are unable to attend the formal session.
SAVE-A-LIFE is a monthly series of free events that aim to educate the community on ways to prevent overdose deaths from painkillers like fentanyl. Naloxone nasal spray, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, will be distributed at the event free of charge.

Funding for this event is provided by contract DH240054280 between Public Health and Human Services and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Thanks to a continued partnership between Public Health and Human Services and the Missouri Institute for Mental Health, participants will have access to Narcan® at no cost.
