Colorado Springs: Wooten Road south of Galley Road to close Aug. 10 for culvert improvements

Rezul News/10742573
~ Colorado Springs - On Monday, August 10, the intersection of Wooten Road and Galley Road will be closed for several months as crews begin the next phase of the Wooten Road and Galley Road Culvert Improvements project. This closure will affect the southbound lane of Wooten Road, with a signed detour directing motorists to use Geiger Boulevard and Babcock Road as an alternate route.

According to city officials, access to businesses will still be available from the south side of the closure. This marks the start of the second phase of the project, which aims to improve drainage in the area. The first phase, which involved construction on Wooten Road north of Galley Road, is expected to be completed on August 10.

During this next phase, traffic on Galley Road will be shifted to the north side of the roadway and onto a newly reconstructed culvert. The project includes rehabilitating and extending an aging box culvert beneath the intersection, as well as upgrading sidewalks, curb ramps, and crosswalks for improved pedestrian accessibility.

The entire project is expected to be completed by late 2026, but this timeline is subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors. Additionally, there may be adjustments made to the detour route in order to accommodate work being done on a nearby Colorado Springs Utilities water main improvement project near Babcock Road.

To stay informed about construction updates and traffic alerts related to this project, residents are encouraged to text "WOOTEN" to 866-762-3640. More information can also be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/WootenGalley.
