Rezul News/10731691
~ The Colorado Springs City Council will be holding a Special Meeting on Monday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. to appoint a new Councilmember for the vacant District 2 Seat. This decision comes after a two-week application period from March 12 to March 26, during which interested candidates were able to submit their applications.
After the application window closed, Councilmembers reviewed all of the candidates and recommended their top choices to move on to the Special Meeting for consideration. The following six candidates have been selected for consideration:
- Polly Cambron
- Cindy Carter
- Ken Casey
- Anita Miller
- Shawn Murray
- Dan Spohn
The interviews will take place during the Special Meeting at 9:00 a.m. on April 6, 2026, in Council Chambers (3rd floor) at City Hall (107 N Nevada). The meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m., and the interview process is subject to change.
Each candidate will have five minutes to address City Council and explain why they are the most qualified candidate for the position. After their opening statement, Councilmembers will have the opportunity to ask follow-up questions. Candidates will have three minutes to respond to each question.

Once all candidates have been heard from, there will be a Public Comment period where constituents can share their thoughts on the potential candidates. Each person will be given three minutes to speak.
Following Public Comment, City Council will deliberate and vote on their chosen candidate. This process will involve a nomination period where the field of candidates will be narrowed down. The final chosen candidate must receive at least five votes from the eight City Councilmembers in order to secure appointment.
The appointed District 2 Councilmember will serve for one year until April of 2027 when a two-year term for District 2 will appear on the Municipal Election ballot in April of that year. At this time, the appointed Councilmember will have the opportunity to run for re-election. After April 2029, the District 2 seat will resume its standard four-year election cycle.
The newly appointed District 2 Councilmember will be sworn in on April 13, 2026, at the start of the Work Session. This decision is crucial for the city and its residents as it will determine who will represent them in local government for the next year.
