DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In response to the Green Ridge Fire, which is currently burning in Routt County and threatening nearly 480 structures, Governor Polis has declared a disaster emergency. The fire, estimated to be 25 acres in size and 0% contained, has already forced mandatory evacuations for 20 homes.

The Governor's verbal declaration activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and directs the Department of Public Safety to take charge of all response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for the Green Ridge Fire. This includes support from the Department's Divisions of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC).

To aid in containment efforts, the State will provide resources such as engines and handcrews, aviation resources, incident management personnel, and overhead support. DFPC will also offer administrative and financial oversight for Routt County and provide intelligence products such as imaging, mapping, and fire behavior modeling.

DHSEM is also playing a crucial role by directly supporting the Routt County Emergency Manager and their emergency operations center with on-site area field managers. Additionally, this declaration authorizes the National Guard to assist in response efforts and makes it easier for out-of-state licensed emergency medical providers to join in fire response efforts.

With this disaster emergency declaration in place, Governor Polis is ensuring that all necessary resources are available to combat the Green Ridge Fire and protect both property and lives.
