Walsenburg Mercantile's renovation project involved converting a vacant building into seven long-term housing units, eight short-term housing units, and a vendor space for 80 local vendors. This impressive transformation caught the attention of the Hart Awards committee and earned Walsenburg Mercantile one of only five Governor's Choice awards in 2026.
The building itself holds significant historical value as it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its restoration not only preserves its unique architectural features but also brings new life to the surrounding community.
