DENVER ~ Denver, CO - The state of Colorado is mourning the loss of American country music and pop culture icon Dolly Parton, who passed away at the age of 80. Governor Jared Polis has ordered that flags across the state be flown at half-staff until sunset on September 1st in honor of Parton's life and legacy.

Parton, known for her musical talent, songwriting skills, and philanthropy, has been a source of inspiration for millions of Coloradans. Her passion for early childhood literacy has also made a significant impact in the state through her partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This program has provided over 3.5 million books to children in Colorado.

In a statement, Governor Polis expressed his sadness over Parton's passing and praised her as a national treasure. He also announced that once a memorial is selected to honor her life and career, flags will be flown at half-staff on that day as well.

President Donald Trump has also declared that all flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on September 1st, 2026 as a mark of respect for Parton's memory. In his proclamation, President Trump stated that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and all public buildings and grounds, military posts and naval stations, and naval vessels throughout the country.

The order also extends to all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, military facilities, and naval vessels abroad. It will remain in effect until sunset on September 1st, 2026.

The nation joins Colorado in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton and honoring her incredible legacy as an artist and philanthropist. As President Trump stated in his proclamation: "Dolly Parton's music will continue to inspire generations to come."
