Colorado: Governor Polis Celebrates New Housing Near Transit In Denver
Rezul News/10732822
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis was in attendance today at the grand opening of Hattie McDaniel, a new community featuring 62 affordable condominiums in the Five Points neighborhood. The development is named after Hattie McDaniel, a Denver native and trailblazing actress and singer who made history as the first African American to win an Academy Award.
During the event, Governor Polis spoke about Colorado's commitment to creating more affordable housing options for its residents. "In Colorado, we are dedicated to providing housing that is both affordable and desirable for our citizens. The Hattie McDaniel is a prime example of our efforts to revitalize our urban core while also honoring the rich history of the Five Points neighborhood. These homes will offer new families and residents the opportunity to live in this iconic and charming community," said Governor Polis.
Colorado has been at the forefront of addressing housing affordability issues by implementing groundbreaking legislation aimed at removing barriers and reducing costs for new housing developments. Governor Polis has signed several laws passed by the state legislature that promote transit-oriented communities, accessory dwelling units, eliminate discriminatory occupancy limits and costly parking requirements, legalize smart-stair apartments, and encourage starter home condo construction.

In addition to attending the grand opening of Hattie McDaniel, Governor Polis also participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Apiary Hotel & Residences. This new complex is located in Denver Tech Center just steps away from RTD E-line Belleview station, providing easy access to transit for both travelers and locals looking to explore nearby restaurants, shops, and businesses.
"By building housing and hotels near transit hubs like this one, we are making it easier for Coloradans and visitors alike to experience all that Denver has to offer. Apiary Hotel & Residences not only offers convenient access to public transportation but also supports local businesses by connecting guests with delicious bakeries and restaurants located within June Gap Market, which is situated below the hotel," said Governor Polis.
The Apiary building also features rooftop beehives and a restaurant that partners with a local beekeeper to support pollinators, urban ecosystems, and Colorado agriculture. This unique feature adds to the overall appeal of the complex and showcases Colorado's commitment to sustainability and supporting local industries.
Governor Polis' attendance at both the Hattie McDaniel and Apiary Hotel & Residences grand openings highlights the state's dedication to creating affordable housing options while also promoting economic growth and sustainability. These developments serve as shining examples of Colorado's efforts to make housing more accessible for all its residents.
