Cloak Brings App Locking, Hiding and AES-256 Encryption to the Mac

Rezul News/10745382
A new macOS menu bar app locks apps with Touch ID, hides them from Spotlight and the Dock, encrypts folders and files, and photographs anyone who fails an unlock. One-time price from $9.99.

LONDON - Rezul -- Cloak, a privacy app for macOS, is now available at https://trycloak.app. Cloak locks, hides, and encrypts apps, folders, and files on a Mac with Touch ID or a password.

Most Macs are shared at some point. A partner borrows the laptop, a child plays a game, a colleague looks over a shoulder. The macOS login password protects the whole computer, but it does nothing once the Mac is unlocked and open. Cloak closes that gap.

The user picks an app, a folder, or a single file, then sets up Touch ID or a password once. A locked app will not open until the owner confirms. A hidden app disappears from Launchpad, Spotlight, and the Dock, so it looks like it was never installed. A locked folder or file is encrypted in place and removed from Finder, then comes back exactly where it was after an unlock.

Cloak uses AES-256 encryption for hidden apps and locked folders. The key is released only when the owner unlocks with Touch ID or the Cloak password. Without that, the contents are unreadable.

The app also answers a problem that simple app lockers ignore. Anyone who knows the Mac login password can often defeat them. In Cloak, the owner can turn off the "Let my Mac password unlock Cloak" setting. Then only a fingerprint or the Cloak password opens anything, and the Mac login password gives no access.

Intruder photos are built in. When someone gets the password or the fingerprint wrong, Cloak takes a photo with the Mac camera. The photos wait for the owner in the app.

Cloak is local first. There is no account, no sign-in, no cloud sync, and no telemetry. Locking, hiding, and encrypting all work offline. The only network call happens when a licence is activated or recovered.

Cloak lives in the macOS menu bar and has no Dock icon. The menu bar icon itself can be hidden and brought back with a keyboard shortcut.

Availability and pricing

Cloak runs on macOS 13 and later. Every licence is a one-time purchase with free updates and no subscription. Personal is $9.99 for one Mac, Family is $14.99 for two Macs, and Pro is $24.99 for five Macs. These are half the regular prices of $19.99, $29.99, and $49.99 during a limited-time offer.
