City of Long Beach to Host Virtual Community Meeting on Junipero Dog Beach Project
Rezul News/10725777
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is taking steps towards creating a new off-leash dog area at Junipero Beach. In collaboration with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Division, the Department of Public Works will be hosting a virtual community meeting to gather feedback and share information about the proposed project.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will be held via Zoom. The goal of the Junipero Dog Beach project is to provide a safe, accessible and managed recreational environment for dogs and their owners. This project is modeled after the success of Rosie's Dog Beach, which has become a popular off-leash dog beach in Belmont Shore.
The proposed off-leash dog zone will cover approximately four acres between Junipero Avenue and 1st Place. This area is comparable in size to Rosie's Dog Beach and was chosen due to its proximity to parking, pedestrian access, and compatibility with surrounding recreational uses. The location also includes the newly constructed Junipero Beach Sports Court.

During the virtual meeting, City staff will give an overview of the project background, proposed location, and anticipated timeline. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback at the end of the presentation. This feedback will be used to help inform the final design of the dog beach.
Pre-registration for the meeting is encouraged and interpretation services are available upon request by Tuesday, Feb. 4th. More information about the project can be found at lbcity.info/juniperodogbeach.
The idea for this project came from a City Council directive to identify potential locations for a second off-leash dog beach in Long Beach. There has been strong community interest in having more space for outdoor recreation with pets west of Rosie's Dog Beach. The project is expected to move forward once a coastal development permit is approved by the California Coastal Commission, a process that can take up to a year or longer.
