Rezul News/10747963
~ The City of Idaho Falls is asking residents to check storm drains near their streets for leaves and other debris amid forecasts of heavy rain and a local flood watch.

Storm drains, usually metal grates along curbs, help prevent street flooding. The city said blocked drains can contribute to flooding that may affect nearby homes.

Residents should clear a drain only if they can do so safely from the sidewalk without entering traffic, according to the city. For other blocked drains, residents can call the city's after-hours dispatch at (208) 612-8108 and remain on the line through the recorded message to reach Public Works dispatch.

The city said residents should report blocked drains on busy streets and wait for crews to clear them.
