City of Columbia to discontinue CoMo Park Card program

Rezul News/10737736
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Parking Utility to Phase Out CoMo Park Card Program

The City of Columbia has announced that it will be discontinuing its CoMo Park Card program, which allows customers to prepay for parking. The decision was made due to aging parking meter equipment and the unavailability of replacement parts.

According to Assistant Director for Public Works, Lee White, the CoMo Park Card has served Columbia's parking customers well for many years. However, with the technology reaching the end of its useful life and newer payment options available, it is time to phase out the program.

The City will stop issuing new CoMo Park Cards in May 2024 and will continue supporting existing cardholders until Dec. 31, 2026. After this date, the card slots in parking garages and meters citywide will be disabled.

Customers who still have funds on their cards are encouraged to use them before Dec. 31 as refunds will not be provided for any unused balances. The City also reminds customers that they can continue paying for parking using coins or the ParkMobile app.

Since Jan. 1, 2026, customers using ParkMobile for hourly parking have not been charged a convenience fee, making it a cost-effective option compared to paying directly at the meter. Additionally, ParkMobile offers features that were not available with the CoMo Park Card such as remote fund adding, tracking active parking sessions, and locating a parked vehicle.

The decision to discontinue the CoMo Park Card program was largely driven by aging equipment and the inability to find replacement parts for many of the card readers. As these readers fail, the City's ability to support the program becomes increasingly limited.

The City is urging customers to use up their remaining balances before Dec. 31 as cards will no longer function after this date. With newer payment options available and no-fee hourly parking payments through ParkMobile, this transition is seen as a positive step towards more efficient and convenient parking options for customers.

The City of Columbia Parking Utility is committed to providing the best possible service to its customers and will continue to evaluate and implement new payment options in the future.
