City of Bloomington Utilities to Host First Public Meeting for Clear Creek Corridor Renewal Project
Rezul News/10748703
~ The City of Bloomington Utilities will hold its first public meeting on the Clear Creek Corridor Renewal Project from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Switchyard Park Pavilion, 1601 S. Rogers St.
The meeting will give community members a chance to learn about the project, meet the project team and provide input as feasibility and design work begins, the utility said.
CBU hired Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC, on Aug. 14, 2026, to conduct a feasibility study and preliminary design. The project aims to address aging stormwater infrastructure, improve drainage, reduce urban flood risks and enhance water quality along the Clear Creek channel south of W. First Street.
The study will explore transforming a century-old limestone channel into a more natural-looking stream corridor to improve stormwater flow and help filter runoff, according to CBU. The project covers downtown Bloomington and nearby portions of the channel, building on earlier efforts including the Hidden River Pathway and Clear Creek Culvert Reconstruction projects, which addressed aging infrastructure and flooding concerns in the watershed.

CBU also plans to explore whether the corridor could support economic development by improving connections between downtown and nearby neighborhoods and encouraging investment in surrounding properties.
"Public input on a project like this is essential," Utilities Director Katherine Zaiger said. She said the project's core mission is to address aging stormwater infrastructure and reduce localized flooding, while also recognizing opportunities for change in the surrounding corridor. "We want to make sure that these decisions are made with community members," she said.
CBU invited residents, businesses and property owners to attend and help guide the project. Those unable to attend can contact Beth Clarizia, a senior project manager with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, to ask questions or share feedback. The announcement did not provide contact details.
