City Council President Crow-Iverson Supports Announcement of U.S. Space Force Investment in Colorado Springs
Rezul News/10736727
This morning, Council President Lynette Crow-Iverson represented City Council to proudly support the announcement of the United States Space Force's decision to establish the new Infrastructure Program Acquisition Executive (PAE) in Colorado Springs and to construct a new $250 million Space Force Operations Facility in the region. This decision represents a significant strategic investment that will strengthen the nation's space capabilities and reinforce Colorado Springs' longstanding role in supporting critical national security missions.
This development marks a major advancement for the Pikes Peak Region. Colorado Springs has earned a reputation as a community that deeply understands national defense missions, supports military families, and provides the infrastructure, workforce, and stability required for mission success. The establishment of the Space Force Operations Facility and associated mission growth will create approximately 2,500 new civilian jobs and generate long-term economic benefits for the region. The new $250 million Space Force Operations Facility at Schriever Space Force Base will support key missions including Golden Dome, space-based reconnaissance, and all-domain command and control-missions. This illustrates the increasing importance of securing the "ultimate high ground" in modern combat.

Through Representative Jeff Crank's leadership in the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act, Space Force Program Acquisition Executives (PAEs) will now hold more than 90 percent of all decision authorities. This streamlined acquisition structure enables the Space Force to collaborate more efficiently with Colorado Springs' industry partners to deliver innovative, mission-ready technologies at operational speed. Building upon the Space Force's former Operational Test and Training Infrastructure Office and its $4 billion portfolio, the Infrastructure PAE represents substantial new investment and expanding employment opportunities for the region.
Earlier this year, City Council, alongside El Paso County and the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, supported an amicus brief related to U.S. Space Command to reaffirm the community's commitment to mission readiness, military families, and a stable, trusted partnership with the Space Force and the Department of War. In November of 2025 in the City Council's formal Resolution opposing the State Attorney General's lawsuit regarding the relocation of U.S. Space Command, the City Council reiterated that national security decisions must remain mission-focused and free from political influence. The Resolution reinforced City Council's view that constructive partnership and cooperation without litigation are essential to protecting Colorado Springs' reputation and long-term relationship with federal defense partners.
