California: Governor Newsom issues emergency proclamation for storm-impacted counties
Rezul News/10709781
~ In response to the devastating storms that hit California in February and March of 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an emergency proclamation for several impacted counties. The proclamation, which was announced on July 29, 2025, aims to assist in the recovery efforts for the counties of Humboldt, Mendocino, Modoc, Napa, Shasta, Sonoma, and Trinity.
The storms caused landslides and widespread flooding that severely affected roads and waterways in these counties. This created dangerous conditions for both people and property. Governor Newsom's proclamation reinforces the state's commitment to helping all Californians recover from natural disasters regardless of their political affiliations.
Under this emergency proclamation, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is authorized to provide assistance to Modoc, Shasta, and Trinity counties through the California Disaster Assistance Act. This will help these counties with their recovery efforts and provide much-needed support to those affected by the storms.
The full text of the emergency proclamation can be found on the Governor's website. In addition to this proclamation, Governor Newsom also issued a separate one for Trinity County on the same day. This was in response to the March 2025 storms that posed a threat to public safety and infrastructure in the community.

The emergency proclamation for Trinity County directs the California Department of Transportation to request assistance through the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program. This will aid in repairing damaged roads and infrastructure in Trinity County.
Governor Newsom has been vocal about his commitment to protecting Californians from natural disasters and climate change. In light of recent actions by the Trump administration that have weakened environmental protections, he has stood with other governors in demanding transparency and truth from federal agencies.
In other news related to public safety promises made by Governor Newsom, recent data shows that over 22,000 arrests have been made and $150 million worth of stolen goods have been recovered across California. This is a result of efforts to prevent and prosecute organized retail theft, with nearly 17,100 cases referred for prosecution.
On July 28, 2025, Governor Newsom also signed several bills into law, including AB 390 which focuses on highway safety and AB 456 which addresses mobilehome parks sales and transfers.
As California continues to face challenges from natural disasters and other issues, Governor Newsom remains committed to protecting the state and its residents. His actions demonstrate his dedication to fulfilling his promises and ensuring the safety and well-being of all Californians.
