~ Colorado Springs Fire Department Lifts Burn Restrictions as Wildfire Risk Decreases

After recent moisture and favorable weather forecasts, the Colorado Springs Fire Department has announced the lifting of burn restrictions within the city. Effective Friday, May 29, 2026 at 12 p.m., residents can resume certain activities that were previously prohibited.

Fire Marshal Kris Cooper made the decision to rescind the burn restrictions due to a substantial recovery of dry fuels and a reduced risk of wildfire activity within city limits. The National Weather Service's short and long-range forecasting models also indicate above-normal precipitation over the next three months, further decreasing local fire danger concerns.

While restrictions are being lifted, residents are reminded that certain activities remain prohibited year-round in Colorado Springs. These include recreational fireworks requiring ignition, burning trash or yard waste, and open burning by non-governmental entities.

Community members are encouraged to continue practicing fire-safe behavior, especially during windy or dry conditions. The Colorado Springs Fire Department has provided an Outdoor Burning Guide to help residents understand what is allowed and what is not when it comes to outdoor burning.

As we enter into the summer months, it is important for everyone to remain vigilant and do their part in preventing wildfires. With these lifted restrictions, let's all work together to keep our community safe from potential fire hazards.
