Boston: Council Condemns Unlawful Killings by Federal ICE Agents
Rezul News/10726455
~ During the latest Council meeting, a resolution was adopted condemning the tragic deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of federal immigration enforcement agents. The Council, comprised of elected officials in Boston, emphasized the city's core values of liberty, constitutional governance, and the rule of law in their statement. They also stressed the importance of protecting civil liberties, due process, and public accountability in a democratic society.
The resolution specifically addresses the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good during a federal immigration operation in Minnesota in January 2026. The Council expressed serious concerns about the use of excessive and unjustified lethal force by federal agents. They also highlighted the killing of Alex Pretti on January 24, 2026. Mr. Pretti was a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and an intensive care nurse at the Minneapolis VA Hospital who held a lawful gun permit. According to public reports and video evidence referenced in the resolution, Mr. Pretti was tackled and restrained by multiple federal agents before being shot multiple times while pinned to the ground. The resolution notes that his family has stated he was unarmed and that his actions were intended to protect another individual. His family has vehemently denied any claims that he was a criminal or terrorist.

In addition to condemning these tragic deaths, the Council also denounced statements made by senior officials within the Trump Administration labeling Mr. Pretti as a "domestic terrorist" before any investigation or legal process had been completed. The Council argued that such statements undermine constitutional protections and erode public trust.
The resolution also brings attention to other individuals who have been killed during federal immigration enforcement actions, pointing to a larger pattern of deaths during these operations or while in federal custody without transparency or accountability.
Citing concerns about public safety, civil rights, and community stability, the Council filed this resolution as an emergency measure. They deemed these killings as unjustified and unlawful and rejected any attempts to justify the use of lethal force after the fact. The Council called for immediate, independent, and transparent investigations, including civil and criminal accountability where appropriate.
In a show of solidarity, the resolution expresses support for the families of those killed, the people of Minnesota, and immigrant communities in Boston and across the country. The Council also urges the federal government to end militarized immigration enforcement practices and instead implement lawful, accountable, and humane approaches that prioritize dignity, safety, and the rule of law.
