Bloomington: Commission on the Status of Black Males Invites Local Teens to Seventh Annual Black Male Youth Summit

~ Bloomington, IN- The seventh annual Black Male Youth Summit, organized by the Commission on the Status of Black Males, is set to take place on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Bloomington City Hall. The one-day summit is open to middle school and high school-aged males in Bloomington and will focus on empowering African American and Latino male-identifying students. This year's theme, "Building the Blueprint: Architecting Our Future," aims to inspire young men of all races and backgrounds to create a successful future for themselves.
The summit will feature a Q&A session with Dr. Russell Ledet, co-founder of The 15 White Coats organization, which is dedicated to increasing diversity in medicine. Dr. Ledet has been recognized for his work on various media platforms such as CBS, BeyGood, CNN, People Magazine, NPR, and the Washington Post. Joining him as a speaker is Jamartae Jackson, Director of First-Generation and Limited-Low Income Student Programs at Indiana University and a professional photographer.

The Monroe County Community School Corporation is partnering with the Commission to present this event and has agreed to excuse registered middle school and high school attendees from classes during the hours of the summit. Interested students must register for this free event by Monday, September 14 at bloomington.in.gov/csbm.
Attendees can look forward to participating in professional-led workshops, enjoying a pizza lunch, winning prizes, and connecting with members of the Commission on the Status of Black Males. The summit aims to champion fairness and empower children and youth through community engagement. It also provides a safe space for students of color to express themselves, learn valuable skills, make meaningful connections, and be inspired by successful men of color in their community.
