2C paving season improves major corridors, neighborhood streets across Colorado Springs

Rezul News/10749542
~ Colorado Springs completed 147 lane miles of paving across 119 roadway segments during its 2026 paving season, 17% more than originally planned, the city said Wednesday.

The work was funded through the voter-approved 2C Road Improvement Program, which supports repairs to existing roads and nearby infrastructure such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks and pedestrian ramps.

Major projects completed this season included South Circle Drive from the Circle Drive Bridge to Airport Road, Union Boulevard from Austin Bluffs Parkway to North Academy Boulevard, and Palmer Park Boulevard from North Academy Boulevard to Circle Drive. The remaining South Circle Drive segment between Interstate 25 and the Circle Drive Bridge is being coordinated with a Colorado Springs Utilities waterline project, the city said, to avoid unnecessary construction impacts.

City officials also highlighted residential street work in the Cragmoor neighborhood near the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, emphasizing that the program covers neighborhood roads as well as major corridors.

"One of the greatest strengths of 2C is that residents can see the results of their investment throughout Colorado Springs," said Wayne Williams, representing the Mayor's Office. He said improvements to both major roads and residential streets affect residents' everyday lives.

Public Works Operations Manager Bryan Wilson said the city uses pavement condition information and infrastructure needs to guide project selection. Preserving roads before they deteriorate further can extend pavement life and reduce the need for more costly repairs, he said.

Voters first approved 2C in 2015 and renewed it in November 2024, extending dedicated road improvement funding through 2035 at the existing sales tax rate. The renewed program represents an estimated $820 million investment in city road infrastructure over 10 years, according to the city.

Public Works is planning and coordinating future improvements as the 2026 paving season winds down. Residents can find program and project information at ColoradoSprings.gov/2C.
