Texas: Governor Abbott Statement On Austin Attack

~ In the wake of a tragic attack that occurred in Austin early Sunday morning, Governor Greg Abbott has released a statement expressing his condolences and determination to protect the state of Texas.
The attack, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, has left the entire state in mourning. In his statement, Governor Abbott said, "Texas mourns with the families and loved ones of those who were horrifically killed in last night's attack in Austin." He also added that he and his wife Cecilia are praying for the victims and their families.
The governor has been in contact with Mayor Watson and DPS Director Martin to offer the full support of the State of Texas. He has assured that all necessary assistance and resources will be deployed to help those affected by this tragedy.
Governor Abbott also addressed any potential threats to Texas' critical infrastructure, stating that the state will respond with "decisive and overwhelming force" to protect its citizens. In light of this, he has directed the Texas Military Department to activate service members under Operation Fury Shield to work alongside state and federal partners.

Security measures have been increased at vital energy facilities, ports, and along the border. The governor also mentioned bolstering cybersecurity personnel and deploying unmanned aerial surveillance to monitor critical infrastructure sites.
To further ensure the safety of Texans, Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas National Guard to intensify patrols and surveillance. He stated that Texas is working relentlessly with federal partners to deploy all necessary resources for defense.
In addition, Governor Abbott has ordered an increase in patrols and law enforcement personnel in downtown Austin's 6th Street District during weekends. He emphasized the need for enough boots on the ground to discourage criminal activity.
