Texas: Governor Abbott Reappoints Boyd To The Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the reappointment of Douglass "Doug" Boyd to the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission. Boyd, a resident of Boerne, will serve a term that is set to expire on March 17, 2029.

The Gulf States Marine Fisheries Compact and the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission have a shared purpose of promoting interstate cooperation for the better utilization of fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico. This includes marine, shell, and anadromous species. The commission also aims to develop a joint program for the protection and promotion of these fisheries and to prevent any physical waste from occurring.

Boyd brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role on the commission. He is the owner and president of Doug Boyd Builder and serves as a national and state board member for the Coastal Conservation Association. In addition, he also serves on the Reef Fish and Red Drum Advisory Panels for the Gulf Council.

Boyd's previous experience includes serving as a board member and vice chairman for both the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council and the National Fish Habitat Action Plan under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He has also held positions as vice chair and council chairman for the National Marine Fisheries Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.

Boyd holds a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance from University of North Texas (formerly known as North Texas State University). With his extensive background in fisheries management, he is well-equipped to continue serving on the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission.
