Texas: Governor Abbott Provides Update On State Response To Severe Flooding

~ Governor Greg Abbott held a press conference at the State Operations Center in Austin today to provide an update on the state's response to the severe flooding that has been occurring across Texas. The Governor was joined by several state and federal emergency response officials, including Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd and Texas Military Department Adjutant General Thomas Suelzer.
During the briefing, Governor Abbott emphasized that protecting life remains the top priority as the state works through record-breaking rainfall. He urged Texans to be diligent in avoiding rising water on roadways and reminded them to "Turn Around, Don't Drown." The Governor also directed state agencies to remain fully engaged and ensure all necessary resources are in place to support affected communities.
The Governor received updates on the current flood impact and ongoing response efforts. He stressed the importance of heeding safety warnings from state and local officials and never driving through flooded roadways. As dangerous flooding continues across parts of the Texas Hill Country, Central and South Texas, Texans in the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, Edwards Plateau, and Trans Pecos regions must remain weather aware overnight.

Response efforts are ongoing as state agencies continue to coordinate with local partners to provide assistance where it is needed most. Texans are advised to stay weather aware, monitor local alerts, follow directions from emergency officials, and never drive through flooded roadways. He assured that over 2,350 state emergency responders have been deployed along with more than 1,400 vehicles to assist local communities.
